Parts made from a composite material have good damping properties (so-called high damping characteristics), but parts having higher damping characteristics are even more desirable. Many attempts have been made to create high damping materials in accordance with this desire.
In the case of a laminate material having a plurality of layers (that is, two or more layers laminated to each other) of a resin (matrix resin) and a fibrous material (or fiber), a resin with a large modulus is used as the matrix resin for providing the strength of the laminate material, while a resin with a small modulus is used as the matrix resin for providing the desired damping property and the structure of the laminate material is designed to make a difference in damping properties between the inside and the outside of the laminate material. For example, Patent Documents 1 and 2 disclose a bonded multi-layer laminate material in which the damping capacity is larger on the outside than on the inside.
Furthermore, techniques for producing a laminate material having high damping properties in accordance with the structure of a metal complex single-phase metal matrix composite material composed of a metal and a fibrous material are disclosed in Patent Documents 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
With an ordinary resin molding method, the shape of a molded product cannot be controlled in a direction in which the fibrous material is aligned (in the fiber direction). Therefore, it is difficult to precisely produce laminate materials having desired shapes and the amount of fiber aligned in a fiber direction is not large. Moreover, the single-

All of us strive to improve and innovate. We need to improve our firms or that of our partners. In order to reach and succeed in today’s competitive business environment, a firm must evolve to stay ahead of the game. Now that is a desirable trait for a manager and everyone should aspire to be as capable as they can in all aspects of their life, including their management style.
The concept of managerial evolution started from the ideas and propositions of Emanuel E. Schein in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His concept is the adaptation process of management as a continuous learning process, a fundamental transformation of managerial knowledge and skills. A firm or organisation can evolve or not be adaptable and the evolution process, although a continuous state, does not have any beginning and end. In this short chapter, I wish to share with you some of my thoughts and concerns in terms of how to apply the concept of managerial evolution, the most fundamental concepts of the evolution process and their links to business strategy, in order to be able to adapt to the competitive environment of the present and the future.
An Emerging Concept
The concept of managerial evolution began to be noted as an important trend in the 1990s and has gained increasing attention in recent years. Some authors have described it as a new concept and others have noted its compatibility with the ideas of its origins. Some publications simply state that it is a new concept. However, it is clearly a concept, a process that has evolved over time.
Emanuel E. Schein, the economist who coined the term, considered the concept as an emerging trend that brings new ideas and a paradigm shift in the way of thinking about management in organisations. However, an important definition proposed by him is the process through which an organisation learns and continuously improves itself to optimise its use of human resources and physical and material resources, in order to satisfy the needs of different stakeholders (Dunn and Schweickart, 1990). This seems to be a very important point because many ideas that are commonly accepted and integrated in current management or business schools have been developed in the last half century, including the concept of strategic management. Business schools, particularly
